Problems You Discover When Moving to a New House

By Kayla Beirne

Moving  into  a  new  home  is  one  of the most exciting experiences in life. However, it can also be very stressful due to unforeseen circumstances.  Surprises,  while  a  lovely  aspect  of  birthday  parties,  aren't welcome when it comes to relocation. Here are some problems you may discover when moving into a new house' and what you can do to prevent them.

When "Moved Out" Isn't Truly Moved Out

As  you  punch  in  the  key code on the garage door opener for the  first  time,  you  may notice there's a little more clutter than you  expected.   While   that   snowblower   might   seem   like  a generous   donation,   residents    who    leave    their   personal possessions   behind   aren't  doing  you  any  favors.  Furniture, power tools, and other belongings only get in the  way as you're moving  in  stuff  of  your  own and  if  you  want  to dispose of them,  that becomes your responsibility. Talk to your real estate agent about this issue.

Something's Bugging You

The  first  meal  you  enjoy  in  your new home probably won't take place at the dining room table more likely, you'll enjoy it sitting  cross-legged  on  the floor amid towers of boxes, packing materials, and furniture that hasn't found its place yet. It's a cute  ritual,  but  one  that  becomes  decidedly less cute when remnants of your sandwich attract a veritable army of ornery ants.  Pest  infestations  don't  always  reveal  themselves  at  open  houses and they  can  make  themselves  known  once  new residents  settle  in.   Finding  out  you  have  bugs  can  put  a  real  damper on the excitement. Make sure a thorough home inspection accounts for any history of pest problems.

Damage in Transit

Among  the  problems  you  discover when moving to a new house,  you may find that not everything made it over in one piece.   Unwieldy   furniture   can   suffer  some  bumps  and bruises  as it makes its way out the door and onto the truck, leaving you with some unpleasant surprises as you move in. Chair and sofa legs are the most likely to take some damage as movers  pack and unpack. Don't skimp on the padding as you  wrap  these  up  to  avoid  unsightly  nicks, scratches, or even breaks.
