The 7 New Ideas to Freshen Up Your Bedroom

by Kristina Marshall

Are you looking to switch up your bedroom decor but don't know where to start? You want a new look for your space, but don't want a cookie-cutter design. You need inspiration beyond your Instagram feed that will freshen up your space!

If you are looking for some new ideas that will transform your bedroom, here are seven designs to get you started!

1. Eco-Friendly Mattresses

Sometimes it's hard to find 100% eco-friendly mattresses in mainstream advertising. With a little research you can find top-notch mattress options! Organic mattresses are designed using an array of natural materials. Here are some examples of eco-friendly mattresses:

  •  Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) Structured from 95% organic materials, the USDA verifies that all mattresses with this rating meet up to GOTS standards.
  • Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS) The GOLS is a third-party standard that signifies that a mattress is designed using 95% latex.
  • GREENGUARD: This is an independent certification that is given to mattresses that undergo rigorous environmental chamber testing for more than 360 chemicals.

Mattresses that are certified under any of the standards listed above ensure they are produced in an environmentally friendly way.

2. Minimalist Style

The concept of less is more is the hallmark of minimalist design. This concept has a clean, streamlined look that is elegant in its simplicity.

This bedroom design style will have no clutter. Storage is often hidden within the design. While this approach is light on décor, it is heavy on creativity.

Some minimalist design elements include:

  • Simple Color Palette; Backdrops of white, or lighter neutral colors along with pastels or splashes of vivid hues best describe the color schemes used in minimalist designs.
  • Hidden Storage; Utilize spaces under the bed, in an ottoman, or in other features that help maintain the stylistic simplicity. Doing this maintains the illusion of minimal design.
  • Create Accents; Simple accents make minimal spaces pop and add artistic flair in this design style. A small, brightly-colored vase or accent piece will stand out against the white of the wall.

3. Murphy Bed

Known as wall beds or pull-down beds, they are stored by folding the mattress into a storage compartment affixed to the wall. For someone with limited bedroom space, the Murphy bed can also double as shelving for decor accents. If you are into DIY projects, there are a host of fun accents that you can create around your Murphy bed.

4. Pallet Bed

Fans of the Minimalist style are buzzing about this new bed frame style. This Scandinavian design incorporates the look of natural wood, and recycles pallet wood. The frame of the pallet bed is structured from pallet wood or built in a fashion that resembles that of a pallet. This design is artistic in its simplicity and provides an economical option for a bed frame.

5. Mirrors

Feng Shui is the Chinese art of placement. This design style maximizes the energy flow in your living space. You can get a Feng Shui practitioner to assist you with this in your space, and there are many resources on the internet as well. One thing that can allow the energy of your room to move more freely is the  addition of a mirror. You can expand the feel of a small bedroom by using a large mirror or a gallery of mirrors. This improves the lighting in the space. Stylish mirrors are an excellent substitution for canvas artwork in the bedroom.

6. Weighted Blankets

If you are looking to take the coziness and comfort of your bedroom to new heights, the weighted blanket is a great option. Weighted blankets are touted by the medical community for their therapeutic use. The same stress-reducing blankets that have been used by occupational therapists for years are now available for your sublime comfort. If you want deep and restorative sleep, a weighted blanket can be a great add to your room.

7. Air-Purifying Plants

Using air-purifying plants in your bedroom will give you better air quality and bring life to your space. Using 4-5 plants in your bedroom will improve your room’s oxygen levels. You can mix and match shorter potted plants and taller vertical ones to enhance the visual effect of the plants in your room.

Below is a list of air-purifying plants that you can use in your bedroom to improve both the mood and air quality.

  • Ficus Lyrata
  • Dracaena Marginata
  • Hedra Helix
  • Sansevieria
  • Silver Pothos
  • Aloe Vera
  • Chinese Evergreen
  • Lady Palm
  • Spider Plants
  • Boston Fern
  • Areca Palm

Conclusion

Your living space will reflect the character of those that live there. It is important that you feel your space reflects your best self. If you think beyond the constraints of time, budget, and space- you can come up with some amazing design ideas!
